Bike Pedestrian Plan in Atherton

The Town of Atherton developed and approved a Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. The Town has retained a consultant to design and implement projects from the Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan. The Town is looking to construct the Class III routes first. Phase 1 improvements will include the placement of bike route signs and shared lane markings (sharrows) on the pavement. These improvements will help inform users that the routes are designated for shared use of bicycles and vehicles. For more information about the project and for a listing of the scope of work please visit

The Town will hold a community meeting on Tuesday, August 11 from 6pm to 8pm in the Pavilion at Holbrook-Palmer Park to discuss the design of Class III routes and the implementation plan.

Please join the discussion.

Fraud Prevention

This week the Town was made aware by a property owner of a potential scam where two men posing as PG&E workers entered the owners property through her backyard to check lines.

PG&E typically will knock on your front door and identify themselves with PG&E badges. Additionally, property owners can verify PG&E workers by using the link below.

Each year, thousands of property owners in California are solicited by unlicensed and/or unscrupulous solicitors, vendors and/or contractors who promise deals, which sound too good to be true. Most of the time, they are, and all too often, the complainant is defrauded out of hundreds or even thousands of dollars. National Night Out

Don't forget to RSVP!

National Night Out is just a few weeks away. On Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm, the Town of Atherton will host its second annual National Night Out in the Park at Holbrook-Palmer Park, 150 Watkins Ave.

Residents are encouraged to join members of the Atherton Police Department, CHP and Menlo Park Fire District to help promote resident involvement in crime prevention and disaster preparedness, and have fun while doing it.

The event will include tug-of-war and sack races led by police personnel, prizes, balloon makers and face painters, snow cones and cotton candy, music, a jumpy house, and a BBQ. There will be informational booths to include the Atherton Disaster and Preparedness Team (ADAPT), CHP and the Atherton Police Department. And don't forget to stop by the Atherton Crime Prevention booth for crime prevention tips and plenty of children's handouts to include glow sticks, finger lights, temporary tattoos, stickers and much more.

The family-oriented event will be highlighted by the CHP emergency helicopter which will land in the grassy field of the Park for children to look at and take pictures in. Click here to view pictures of the helicopter landing in the Park this past March.

This is a free event for all Atherton residents!

We encourage residents to RSVP so we can plan accordingly for the BBQ and handouts. However the ticket is not required for entrance.

Notification of Interns in the Field

The Public Works Department is collecting data throughout Town on the Town's Storm Drain system.  The intent of the project is to create a new GIS layer to help the Town manage its storm drain system.  The Town has hired two interns who are working throughout the Town from 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, using iPads to collect and inventory information such as GPS coordinates of the Storm Drain manhole and drain inlet locations,  size of the facilities, photos of the equipment, and much more.

The interns have Town issued ID badges and wear orange vests.

The interns are likely to continue working to collect data through mid-September.
