[ARCHIVED] Atherton Burglary with Recovered Property

On 01-06-14 at 10pm, an Atherton resident who resides on Oakwood Blvd called police to report hearing noises in their garage. Officers arrived on scene to discover a broken window leading into the garage. The cars inside the garage had been opened and property stolen. Oakwood Blvd is in the Selby Lane neighborhood.

A short time later, while in the neighborhood looking for the burglary suspect, an Atherton Officer came upon a suspicious person several houses away in Redwood City. This person immediately fled upon being contacted by the Officer, leaving a backpack containing an item stolen from one of the cars parked in the Atherton resident's garage.

With the help of the Menlo Park Police Department, Redwood City Police Department, and a canine unit from the Palo Alto Police Department, Officers searched the neighborhood for the suspect who fled from the Atherton Officer. Despite a 2 hour door to door effort, Officers were not successful in their search.

On 01-07-14, a Redwood City resident contacted Redwood City Police about a suspicious person in the Oakwood Blvd neighborhood. The Redwood City Police Department arrested this suspicious person after he was found to be in possession of stolen property that was taken from a recent Oakwood / Selby neighborhood burglary. This suspect may be tied to Atherton's string of burglaries in Selby Lane area.

The Atherton Police Department continues to recommend heightened vigilance, particularly in the Selby Lane neighborhood. Continue to lock doors, use exterior lighting, and please call the Police when there are suspicious people or unusual noises.
