Atherton Avenue Improvements

Atherton Avenue Bicycle Lanes Improvement Project

The Town of Atherton intends to implement the Atherton Avenue Bicycle Lanes project from the Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan. The Town has retained a consultant to prepare a grant funding application in conjunction with a consultant from C/CAG to pursue the Active Transportation Program (ATP) Cycle 4 grant, which is composed of federal funds, State SB1(gas tax) and State Highway Account (SHA) funds.  The project focuses on improving access for students, families, residents and visitors biking along Atherton Avenue between Alameda De Las Pulgas and El Camino Real.  Specific improvements include widening the roadway, improving shoulder conditions, restriping with class II bike lanes, improved crossings at conflict zones, and increasing signage/wayfinding to provide improved bike paths.

If the Town’s grant application is successful, the Town will be looking to retain a consultant to design the Class II bike lane improvements. The design and construction of Class II improvements will include the placement of bike route signs and bicycle lane markings on the pavement. These improvements will help inform users that the routes are designated for use of bicycles. Below is a grant application schedule list and scope of work.

The Town is seeking your input on the proposed project.  Please send your comments on the conceptual layout to: nbosan@interwestgrp.com.
