D.A.R.E. in Atherton

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) is a comprehensive Officer-led, in-classroom anti-drug, anti-gang, anti-violence education for school children around the world. The D.A.R.E. mission is to provide children with the information and skills they need to live drug- and violence-free lives, and to establish positive relationships between law enforcement and students, teachers, parents, and other members of thecommunity.

D.A.R.E. Community Car

The Atherton Police Department first offered the D.A.R.E. curriculum to Atherton elementary schools in the fall of 1996. Selby Lane School was the first school to receive the program. The program received rave reviews from the students, parents, and school officials at Selby Lane.

The goal is to establish the core curriculum in all 5th grade classrooms, and provide D.A.R.E. visitation classes to all kindergarten through 4th grade classrooms in Atherton. Ideally, every student in an Atherton School, from Kindergarten to 12th grade, will be exposed to the knowledge and skills offered by D.A.R.E.
