Residential Burglary and Fire Alarm Information

The Atherton Police Department is always concerned with the community's reaction to the increasing crime rate in today's society. Throughout the country, people are taking steps to provide themselves with a greater degree of protection with the use of guard dogs, firearms, and alarm systems. Residential alarms are, by far, the best security investment. Therefore, the Police Department provides residents with information and recommendations concerning the elements of the most effective and efficient reside ntial alarm systems.

A list defining some "alarm terminology" is available to assist you in understanding and selecting the alarm system best suited for your needs. The Atherton Police Department STRONGLY encourages you to investigate connecting your alarm system so that it goes directly to the police station. There is no charge to connect or monitor your alarm. A list of alarm companies currently licensed to install alarms in Atherton is available at the police station or on-line.

Beware of unlicensed alarm installers! These installers may work for a few dollars less, but you have no indication of their ethics or qualifications. It is also against the law for unlicensed companies to install alarms in the Town of Atherton. It is recommended that you contact at least three of the listed alarm companies for estimates and references, or contact your existing alarm company for estimates on modifications. Only the listed alarm companies have licenses to install alarms in Atherton. This listing should not be considered as an endorsement or recommendation by the Town of Atherton. Remember that alarm systems are only a supplement to other crime prevention measures, such as locking all doors and windows, reporting all suspicious people and cars, and attending neighborhood security meetings.

All alarm companies installing alarms in Atherton must have a business license.
