In the event of an emergency, communication becomes essential. You will want to be able to keep in touch with family, contact emergency servies, communicate with insurance companies, and more.

Make sure you get warnings and alerts:

  • Sign up for San Mateo County Alert System, SMC Alert, a free alert notification system use dot immediately contact you during urgent or emergency situations. Go to www.smcalert.info and sign up to receive alerts on your cell phone and via email.
  • Go to the National Weather Service website at www.weather.gov for forecasts and weather alerts.
  • Local TV and radio news stations will cover breaking weather news and broadcast messages from the Emergency Alert System.

Install mobile apps that can help you in an emergency. The FEMA and American Red Cross apps will provide you with severe weather alerts and how to find shelters and other disaster relief services. Download a weather app too! The NOAA app is an excellent resource for up-to-the-minute local forecasts and push alerts for severe weather.
