George has been the City Manager for the Town of Atherton since October 2012. George serves as the chief executive officer for the Town responsible for leadership of the organization and implementation of City Council policy. George has direct responsibility and oversight of all departments: Police, Planning, Building, Administration (City Clerk, Finance, IT, Human Resources), and Public Works. Prior to coming to Atherton, George worked as City Manager for the City of Belvedere from March 2005 to June 2012. George had direct responsibility and oversight of all departments: Planning, Building, Administration (City Clerk, Finance, Human Resources), Public Works, and Public Safety (Police & Contract Fire). Issues in Belvedere revolve around planning and development of residential property; FEMA and the local Special Hazard Flood Zones (land use, planning, funding, engineering, and design solutions); emergency preparedness; utility undergrounding; public safety; public information, community activities, and capital projects. Belvedere has a population of approximately 2,125 and an annual expenditure budget of $6-$7 million.
Prior to Belvedere, George served as the City Manager for the City of Villa Park from December 2001 to March 2005. George had direct responsibility and oversight of all departments: Planning, Building, Administration (City Clerk Finance, Human Resources), Public Works, and Public Safety (Contract Police & Fire). Issues in Villa Park revolved around planning, building, public safety, finance, and emergency preparedness. Villa Park has a population of approximately 6,400 and an annual expenditure budget of $3-$4 million.
Prior to Villa Park, George worked as the Assistant to the CIty Manager for the City of La Mirada from October 1996 to December 2001. George had responsibility for and oversight of Human Resources, Capital Projects, Transit, Information Technology, Public Works, and Administration. La Mirada has a population of approximately 50,000 and an annual expenditure budget of $51-52 million.
Prior to La Mirada, George served in various capacities with the cities of La Habra Heights, Rancho Palos Verdes, and La Mirada. George worked as a Code Enforcement Officer, Planner, and Intern working on public information, code enforcement, planning, information technology, housing, transit, economic development, and redevelopment.
George has a Bachelor's Degree in Municipal Management from Central State University, Oklahoma, a Master's Degree in Public Administration from California State University, California, and a Juris Doctorate from Concord Law School, California.
