Directed by Frank Moura, the Menlo-Atherton High School Jazz Band has earned a high award-winning reputation year after year for decades, appearing in regional and European jazz festivals. One of the top swing and jump blues bands in the country, Lavay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, perform the jazz classics of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Louis Jordan. The Dynamic Les DeMerle Band features the fabulous master drummer Les DeMerle playing hard swinging bebop hit standards associated with the likes of legendary artists Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Art Blakey and Freddie Hubbard. Vocalist Claudia Villela and guitarist Ricardo Peixoto, lead their group through a rich repertoire of captivating Brazilian music.

At 2 p.m. there will be a special jazz activity for children: "Stanford Jazz Workshop Plays for Kids". The Stanford Jazz Workshop brings the best performers and teachers of jazz to our community to delight listeners and students of all ages. Members of the SJW faculty, including musical director Jim Nadel and master drummer Akira Tana, will show children the instruments used in creating jazz, and show how much fun you can have improvising on familiar songs and making jazz music.
