ASA Adopt a Unit program

America Supporting Americans (ASA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that links military units to communities across the country. ASA initiated its Adopt a Unit program in 1967 when the City of San Mateo adopted 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army as it was deployed in Vietnam. The Adopt a Unit program included the sending of letters and care packages from the persons in San Mateo to the Unit as it was deployed. These acts helped to boost the morale of those serving far from home on behalf of our Country. The Town and Police Department have participated in this program in the past.

The City Council recently adopted a Resolution authorizing the adoption of Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, 1st Brigade, and 101st Airborne Division.

The Atherton Police Department is seeking donations of Baby R' Us gift cards for families with soldiers who are returning home from a tour in Africa.  Please email Detective Jason Bollendorf for more information - jbollendorf@ci.atherton.ca.us.

Please Join us for the SECOND Annual Town of Atherton CERTQuake Community Emergency Drill

PLEASE JOIN US!
Emergency Preparedness Training Drill for Atherton Residents
Date and time:  September 9th, 8 AM - 1 PM

This is a joint community emergency disaster drill with Atherton community resident volunteers, ADAPT, Atherton Police Department (APD), Atherton EOC, Menlo Park Fire Protection District (MPFPD) San Mateo County CERTs and the MPFPD Fire Department.

The drill will take place on September 9, 8 AM - 1 PM at the APD parking lot (83 Ashfield Road, Atherton) and the surrounding neighborhoods.  Setup will begin at 7 AM if you can join us.  There is parking on the site.

Our goal is to better prepare Atherton residents in case of a disaster and to improve collaboration between the City, first responders and volunteers during a major emergency.

We will practice organization coordination, resource management, information gathering, effective communication and field leadership.

We will activate and operate an ICP, conduct traffic control, exercise both GMRS/FRS and Ham communications, deploy reconnaissance and triage/transport teams and direct light search and rescue teams within a 5-acre operations area.  Several random injects will be introduced to practice field response capability.  The operations area will surround two neighborhoods, the civil center, a corporation yard and the CalTrain right-of-way in Atherton.

Some of you were at out East Palo Alto and Menlo Park CERTQuake Drills earlier this year.   You know that this is a great opportunity to practice your CERT skills with other CERT and agency individuals from throughout San Mateo County, Menlo Park, Atherton and East Palo Alto.

Bring you CERT gear - Water and limited refreshments will be provided.

On behalf of Michael Ralston, MPFPD Community Crisis Management Director, thank you for your consideration and we hope see you there.
