Atherton Earth Day Event

Please join us for our 2017 Atherton Earth Day celebration starting at 10 A.M. on and ending at 1 P.M. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Town Center (Ashfield Road and Dinkelspiel Station Lane). The Town’s Environmental Programs Committee, Recology and the Atherton Library are teaming up to bring you: free garden mulch, e-waste safe recycling, secure shredding, eco-friendly 3-D printing, the San Mateo County Bookmobile, earth friendly planting, family friendly experiments, our ever popular Student Challenge, and much more. All local high school students are welcome to give presentations on environmental issues, and can sign up to participate by completing the application found at: The Student Challenge is juried with prizes and awards for participants.

As indicated above, the Town's annual Shred, E-Waste and Compost Giveaway are combined with the Earth Day activities on April 22nd..... 

Bring paper documents and confidential materials for safe and secure shredding done onsite. Limit 3 standard size bankers boxes (10"x12"x15") per household. Shred events last until the time listed or until the truck is full whichever
comes first.

Properly recycle your old electronics. Accepted items include TVs, computers, printers, monitors, cables/cords, cell phones, MP3 players, DVD players, laptops and more (working or not).

Unacceptable Items: NO Household appliances like fans, floor heaters, smoke detectors, vacuum cleaners, cooktops, dishwashers, microwaves, ovens, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, or household hazardous waste.

Compost Giveaway - Just bring your own bags and shovel! We took care of the rest!

Committee/Commission Recruitment

Each year around Springtime the Town begins recruitment for its various committees and commission for terms that expire on June 30 of each year. 

Notice of openings and requests for applications for committees and commissions are posted and published
on the town website, through email blasts, and in the Athertonian newsletter. The application process may take from six weeks to two months. Vacancies are advertised for approximately 30-45 days with a specific filing deadline. Deadlines may be extended.
