NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that an All-Mail Special Election will be held in the Town of Atherton, County of San Mateo, California, on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.
 
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that at the All Mail Ballot Special Election to be held in the Town of Atherton on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, the following measure is to be voted on:
 
Should the Town of Atherton supplement private donations with available non-dedicated General Funds to meet the funding shortfall, where one exists, for construction of the new Town Center?

Ballot Arguments Deadlines


NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN, pursuant to the provisions of Sections 9282-9286 of the Elections Code of the State of California, the following deadlines are hereby established as the final dates on which direct arguments and rebuttal arguments for or against the measure appearing on the ballot may be submitted to the City Clerk/Elections Official for printing and distribution to the voters as required by law:
 
The deadline to file a direct written argument, not to exceed 300 words is:
12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017
 
The City Attorney’s Impartial Analysis not to exceed 500 words:
12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017
 
The deadline to file a rebuttal written argument, not to exceed 250 words is:
12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017

Ballot Argument Information


Printed arguments submitted to voters shall be titled either “Argument in Favor of Measure ___” or “Argument Against Measure ___”, and “Rebuttal to Argument in Favor of Measure ____” or “Rebuttal to Argument Against Measure ___” respectively.

Primary Argument Submission Form and Rebuttal Submission Forms can be found on the Town's June 6, 2017 Election Webpage.

Direct and rebuttal arguments shall be submitted to the City Clerk/Elections Official, accompanied by the printed name(s) and signature(s) of the author(s) submitting it, or if submitted on behalf of an organization, the name of the organization and the printed name and signature of at least one of its principal officers who is the author of the argument.  All arguments concerning the above measures must be accompanied by an Argument Submission form statement to be provided by the City Clerk’s Office.
 
No primary argument shall exceed 300 words in length.  Only one argument in favor of and one argument against each measure will be selected for printing and distribution to the voters.  The City Council has already voted to authorize the City Council to submit the Argument in Favor of the measure. No more than five signatures shall appear with any argument.
 
The authors of the primary arguments in favor of or against each measure may prepare and submit rebuttal arguments not exceeding 250 words.  The authors may authorize in writing any other person or persons to prepare, submit, or sign the rebuttal argument.  No more than five signatures shall appear with any rebuttal argument. 
 
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the full text of the measure, the city attorney’s impartial analysis, and direct arguments filed will be available for public examination in the Clerk’s Office for not less than 10-calendar days from the deadline for the filing of the arguments and analysis.  Any rebuttal arguments filed will be available for public examination in the Clerk’s Office for not less than 10-calendar days from the deadline for filing rebuttal arguments.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that there shall be set a 10-calendar day examination period for public review of said arguments.  During this time, any registered voter, eligible to vote on the measure, or the elections official, may seek a writ of mandate or an injunction requiring any or all of the materials to be amended or deleted.  The review period for primary arguments in favor of or against ballot measures shall commence at 5:00 P.M. on March 17, 2017.  The review period for rebuttals to primary arguments in favor of or against ballot measures shall commence at 5:00 P.M. on March 27, 2017.

NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that voted Vote by Mail and Provisional Ballots for the Election held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, shall be tallied at the location given below:

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that at such election the polls will be open from the hour of 7:00 A.M., to the hour of 8:00 P.M., on the day thereof. Additionally, a black election mail box ballot drop off will be located at Town Hall beginning in early May.
