Town Communications and Civic Engagement
The Town tries to communicate news and information internally and externally in a timely, cohesive, and proactive manner, so that residents are well informed and able to access information pertaining to the Town. We encourage open, two-way communication and public involvement in the decision-making processes. We want you to stay informed about news and information important to you!
There are many ways that you can stay in the loop and engage with the Town - here are a few!
The Town and its various Committees and Commission serve to represent the residents of Atherton. These groups gather, synthesize, and analyze information relevant to their areas of responsibility and provide the City Council and staff with advice, feedback and recommendations. The Council and staff rely on this advice for the development and execution of Town policies.
All public meetings can be found on the Town Calendar. Videos of public meetings can be accessed on our YouTube Channel.
Notify Me is a tool that allows users to pick and choose from the various Town departments the information you wish to receive. You can sign up for text notifications or email notifications. To receive the weekly email (a conglomeration of various Department news) from the Town sign up for Atherton Online under the Notify Me Tab. Staff tries to put together relevant information for the community and release it via News Flashes or a Friday, Atherton Online Newsletter. News Flashes are up for brief periods of time, but Atherton Online is archived. You can access the archive here.

The Archive Center is a repository of records and documents on the Town's website. Here you will find archives of the Town's budgets, Annual Audits, newsletters, agendas & minutes, CalPERS Actuarials and Valuations, Forms related to Elections, Labor Contracts, Mayoral Correspondence, and more.
City Manager's Blog
The City Manager's Blog is an online tool to provide general information to the community in an open communication style. One of the regular items on the City Manager's Blog is the monthly City Manager's Report. The Report is a consolidation of issues, communications, and Town activity during the prior month that have been reported to the City Council as part of their weekly email from the City Manager.
Peak Democracy / Open Town Hall
Peak Democracy is a civic engagement tool/resource that allows the Town to facilitate public engagement by focusing on feedback from Atherton residents. There are two current topic on Open Town Hall - the first is a survey related to Drone Regulation and the second is a survey related to the replacement of the old Series Street Lights in Town.
The Town engages OpenGov to assist with provide the public an opportunity to manipulate budget data. Through Atherton's Financial Data Transparency Portal users can view financial data based on the current budget or up to the current month. The users can manipulate the data and drill down to finite details or scale up to the big pictures. Users can also download the data as an excel spreadsheet. Take a peek and tell us what you think!
Nextdoor is a private neighborhood website where residents share information such as neighborhood pubic safety issues, community events and activities, local services, referrals and lost pet information.The Town utilizes Nextdoor to push Town news to the various Nextdoor neighborhoods.
The Town develops and mails an attractive newsletter called The Athertonian three to four times a year to all residents. The newsletter includes information about new police officer hires, elections, town accomplishments, projects, meetings and much more! To view past editions of the Atherton visit the Archive Center.
In addition, the Town sends various postcards and other town-wide mailings when there is important news or meetings to publicize.

www.facebook.com/townofatherton - this is the Town's central page. All News Flash and Meetings posts on the Town's website are replicated here. The page is not centrally managed for comments, so comments are not monitored or posted.
www.facebook.com/athertonciviccenter - this is a page dedicated to the Civic Center Project. Posts here are project specific.
www.facebook.com/AthertonCityManager - this page is managed independently by the City Manager. Comments are allowed on this page as the City Manager monitors and responds to comments as often as is feasible.

@Atherton_CM - this feed is managed independently by the City Manager and is his own personal feed. Tweets usually related to the Town itself, but there may be personal tweets interspersed.

Use this to report a concern. (Only for non-emergency concerns) Dial 9-1-1 for emergencies. Reports here are emailed to appropriate staff for follow-up.
