Municipal Election on November 8, 2016, to fill two
City Council seats for a four-year term expiring in
November 2020. The Nomination Period opens
Monday, July 18, 2016 and closes Friday, August 12,
2016, at 5 p.m. However, if one or more incumbent
Council Members do not file for re-election by the
August 8th deadline, the filing period is extended to
5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016.

Interested registered voters of the Town should contact Theresa DellaSanta in the City Clerk Office at 752-0529 or for information on becoming a candidate.
The Role of a Council Member
The role of the City Council, as a body, is to set legislative policy and vision for the Town. The City Council is not involved in the day-to-day organizational management or delivery of service; rather, they set the vision and policy for how those services are prioritized or delivered. A City Council is akin to a Board of Directors and the City Manager is the Chief Executive Officer of the organization. The relationships and dynamics are very similar,
albeit more intensely constructed in law to ensure transparency and representation.
Depending on one’s level of availability, the role of Council Member can be time consuming. In any week, a Councilmember can spend between 5 to 10+ hours of time on Town issues between email, phone calls, meetings (local and regional), and review of information.
It varies from member to member based on their level of involvement, interest, and interaction – and in Atherton, they do this without remuneration. For more information on the role of a Council Member please visit the Town’s website at and navigate to Agendas and Minutes.
For more information contact me at 650-752-0529 or Judi Herren at 650-752-0500.

On Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 6pm to 8pm, the Town of Atherton will host its third annual National Night Out in the Park at Holbrook-Palmer Park, 150 Watkins Ave.

National Night Out is a nation-wide program designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations, and let criminals know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Residents are encouraged to join members of the Atherton Police Department, CHP and Menlo Park Fire District to help promote resident involvement in crime prevention and disaster preparedness, and have fun while doing it.

There will be plenty of children's activities and games at the event. View last years galley by clicking here.
