Earth Action Fair - Sunday, May 22

The celebration continues on Sunday, May 22nd with the Atherton 2020 Earth Action Fair from 1:00 to 5:00 pm in the new Event Garden in Holbrook-Palmer Park (located at 150 Watkins Avenue, Atherton, CA).

More than 30 exhibitors will be there, including students competing in the Atherton 2020 Student Challenge showcasing their Environmental Issue presentations in true Science Fair fashion! (More information below)

Attendees can further extend their knowledge about ways to live more sustainably by visiting with several dozen area businesses, non-profit organizations, agencies and artists, along with several town committees, who will be there to discuss everything from financing and installing solar panels on homes to the state of clean nuclear power in California. Attendees will be able to learn about the Net Zero Energy features of Atherton’s proposed Civic Center, test-drive an electric vehicle with TESLA, learn how to keep chickens, collect clean mulch for their gardens, and how to recycle those pesky toxic items - you will even be able to drop off small, hazardous waste items (batteries and bulbs).

PLUS! There will be a place where you can recycle broken crayons, donate a bike, learn how to conserve water usage and energy, all while enjoying homemade snacks and live jazz music courtesy of the Menlo-Atherton Jazz Band. This family-friendly event will provide a fun range of kid-worthy entertainment, including: a bounce-house, petting zoo, and crafts and interest for teens and adults alike.

Environmental Student Challenge

In addition to all of the fun activities planned for the Sunday Fair, we have included a student challenge.

The Student Environmental Challenge engages area students in a competition that inspires them to learn about an environmental topic and prepare a visual presentation that informs the community about that topic. The student presentations will be showcased at the fair and attendees will have an opportunity to view them, talk about them with the students directly, and vote on their favorite presentations to win prizes.

Judging will happen at the park and consist of voting by community members and a panel of experts. All participating students will win an award of either High Honors, Honors or Honorable Mention, and award certificates signed by the Mayor will be given out at the City Council Chambers at the June 15 City Council Meeting.
