Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program





The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program, provided by San Mateo County, helps residents dispose/recycle their residential hazardous waste properly - for FREE!


The HHW door-to-door collection is available to all Atherton residents!  Just call 1-800-449-7587 to schedule your pick-up date.

The San Mateo County's Health System Department will accept dropped off HHW by appointment.  You can visit San Mateo County's Health System department at www.smchealth.org/hhw/ for information on HHW events, HHW drop off appointments, and what is and is not accepted.  Any County Resident may participate at any collection.  They are held on Thursdays through Saturdays at the main Facility in San Mateo, while events occur in Daly City, Half Moon Bay, La Honda, Menlo Park, Pacifica, Portola Valley, Redwood City and South San Francisco.

Join the City of East Palo Alto and Midpen for a FREE fun-filled spring festival and the grand opening of the new Education Center at Cooley Landing Park.
  • Grand Opening Ceremony at 11:00am with Congresswoman Jackie Speier (District 14), Assemblymember Rich Gordon (District 24), Supervisor Warren Slocum (District 4), Mayor Donna Rutherford and Midpen Director Nonette Hanko (Ward 5).

  • Art Displays
  • Community Booths

In addition, tour East Palo Alto’s new 3,000-square feet Outdoor Education Center on the bay. The Center was funded by a Prop 84 grant that the City was awarded in 2011. With the purpose of providing an outdoor education facility on the bay, the Center will host partner-based education programs and is available for rental by the public for certain uses.
