Amateur Radio Operators

To All Atherton Amateur Radio Operators (Hams):
Atherton Disaster And Preparedness Team (ADAPT) is seeking all amateurs radio operators in Atherton to join with us to help our neighbors and friends in the event of a disaster or emergency. Through actual federal, county and local emergencies, the experts have found that good communications is essential for an effective response in helping others, as you might expect.  When a disaster hits or an emergency arises, the need for Ham Radios and Ham Radio Operators when conventional communication lines are down has been proven time and time again.
Whether you are a technician, general, or extra license holder, any radio operator can be of help to your neighborhood and the community. We can train you if necessary. A monthly ‘Net’ is held to keep us and our equipment up to speed. And live practice drills, such as with Menlo Park Fire District CERTs (Community Emergency Response Teams), are especially helpful to keep us effective and up to date, so we can better coordinate a response when the time comes.
Additionally, the Menlo Park Fire Department, which is Atherton’s fire and emergency response agency, has divided up Atherton into 16 neighborhoods.  Eleven of the 16 neighborhoods have a volunteer “Neighborhood Coordinator” and have organized into small teams to coordinate a local neighborhood response and to help look after their neighbors in the event of a disaster like an earthquake. These neighborhood teams are seeking a Ham Radio Operator or two to round out their teams and coordinate communication with the Town and the Fire District’s Emergency Operations Center during an emergency.
ADAPT is a volunteer organization that usually meets the first Saturday of each month at 9 AM in town hall across from the Police Dept. Please check out our website at and join with us. If you would like to help, learn more or for questions, please contact one of the following ADAPT members:
Scott Barnum – ADAPT Organization Coordinator
Frank Adams – Ham Radio Extra/ADAPT Communications Coordinator / Call Sign: N6YP
