2015 in Review

As we prepare to close out the year and begin a new one, I thought we could take a look back at some highlights of past editions of Atherton Online.

March 2015

  • The Town launched Atherton Open Town Hall at http://peakdemocracy.com/2511, an exciting online platform designed to engage citizens in a conversation that will harness their input on important Town issues. Town officials read the statements and incorporate them into the decision-making process.
  • Atherton Police Officers were among those recognized by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) at a luncheon at the San Jose Marriott. The honors were for their outstanding contributions to help stop the crime of driving under the influence during the 2014 calendar year.
  • The Town held its first annual Get Ready Atherton event on March 28, 2015. The event consisted of some short informational presentations from public safety officials (Police, Fire, USGS) and then a “trade show” of sorts with tables set up and manned by an array of emergency prep entities. The event was set up to help educate and prepare families for a major disaster.  Event Gallery

Summer, 2015

The Town held a series of community outreach meetings in June and July to introduce the Civic Center’s conceptual design to Atherton residents. The City Council approved the Conceptual Plan on October 7, 2015, following extensive analysis and review by the CCAC. The Council directed that the proposed Council Chambers be relocated from the Administrative Services wing to the Public Safety Services wing of the facility.

Right now, CCAC is working with WRNS Studios, LLP on the Schematic Design Phase, which includes fine-tuning of room sizes and relationships, systems, interior spaces, and preparation of preliminary elevation studies of the buildings’ exteriors.

The new civic center needs a lot of public input and participation along the way so we encourage you to get involved at every stage. Click Here to View the upcoming Schedule.

August, 2015

The Town held its 2nd Annual National Night Out. Another Success! Several families came out to enjoy the kids activities, BBQ, face painting, balloon making and information booths. We cant wait for our 3rd Annual National Night Out next August!  To view the gallery from this years event click here.

October, 2015

  • Cities throughout San Mateo County are exploring a concept called Community Choice Energy (CCE) that already saves money for residents in Napa and Sonoma Counties and offers them more energy options, including higher renewable energy content. The Town became the first city in the County to consider joining the PCE JPA through a first reading of the ordinance at the December meeting. A final reading and adoption will take place at the January meeting. For more information visit the County Sustainability Webpage.
  • The Town became more active in Social Media, particularly in Twitter.  Most, if not all of the news flashes and other information sent out via the Town's website and Facebook page are replicated as tweets. In addition, the City Manager tweets on behalf of the Town @Atherton_CM. On the Town's website you will find various hashtags and other relevant social media connections.

December, 2015
